Part-Time Accountant

Currently, CCDS is seeking a part time accountant to work 2-3 days per week. Candidates should possess a strong knowledge of accounting; however, a professional designation is not required. The position of Accountant assists CCDS in its financial management system and reports to the CCDS Executive Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain CCDS’ accounting system
  • Prepare administrative and project-specific financial reports
  • Assist with budget projections
  • Manage accounts payable/receivable
  • Manage payroll system, staff registered retirement savings plan, and staff health plan
  • Maintain accounts for audit purposes
  • Prepare monthly financial statements for the CCDS Executive Committee
  • Manage finance-related governance matters (i.e.: Canada Revenue Agency compliance)

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability and experience working with or in a not-for-profit environment
  • Demonstrated experience working with QuickBooks
  • Excellent organizational skills and an ability to manage multiple administrative and project files simultaneously
  • Familiarity with financial project management/reporting an asset
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member

Executive Director

The Canadian Centre on Disability Studies (CCDS) is a consumer-directed, university-affiliated centre dedicated to research, education and information dissemination on disability issues. CCDS invites applications for the position of Executive Director, to begin November 1, 2013, or as soon thereafter as possible. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for providing dynamic leadership to further the mission of the organization through the effective management of a skilled and dedicated interdisciplinary team, the development of sound and effective partnerships with universities, governments, the disability community and the private sector, and contributing to and building financial sustainability. The proposed salary range will be $65,000 to $85,000, commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

The successful candidate will have a graduate degree in disability studies or another relevant discipline, experience in developing and conducting research and/or non-research projects, excellent communication and facilitation skills, and management experience in a small to medium non-profit organization. The position will appeal to an individual who has a deep commitment to creating a more inclusive society for all, including persons with disabilities, who has demonstrated experience in developing meaningful community engagement for partners and others, and who is comfortable working with diverse groups and communities. The ability to communicate in French would be an asset. Though based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the organization (and thus, the position of Executive Director) has national and international dimensions as well.
