The Disabilities Issues Office (DIO) and the Canadian Centre on Disability Studies (CCDS) will be hosting a Manitoba Disability Research Forum on Thursday, November 17, 2011 from 12:00 noon – 2 p.m. in the Buchwald Room at the Millennium Library (2nd floor, 251 Donald Street) in Winnipeg.

Our goal is to bring together individuals who are conducting disability research with those in a position to benefit from the results. This networking event will offer practitioners from the community, academia, and government an opportunity to learn about disability research already undertaken and to offer suggestions for future disability research. We will also discuss the feasibility of establishing a web-based disability research bulletin board to facilitate sharing of research among stakeholders.

Due to the size of the venue, attendance is limited. Please respond to Allen Mankewich at communications@disabilitystudies.ca or 287-8411 ext. 22 if you would like to attend. Please RSVP and inform us of any accommodations you require to participate by November 10, 2011. Teleconference options can also be made available if there is enough interest from those who cannot attend in person.

A final agenda will be posted closer to the event.

The National Union of Women with Disabilities in Uganda (NUWODU) has strong national and regional connections with disability and women’s groups, but lack the research capacity to conduct formal research projects to generate the data they require to justify their requests for supports and services, and to lobby government to make positive change for women and girls with disabilities. As a result, NUWODU has formed a partnership with CCDS to build its capacity to conduct research and collect data about women with disabilities in Uganda.
